A very enjoyable meeting was held in the Academy at Weston General Hospital, hosted by John Dixon and colleagues. There was a healthy turnout from all grades, and 24 papers were read by trainees. The prize was awarded (by Bob Spencer – see pic) to Dani Piper, a medical student for her excellent presentation entitled “ACL bundle augmentation“.
The guest lectures had a strong local theme:
Patrick Case (introduced by his wife Ruth Case) updated us with his unparalleled experience on “The metal debris story so far”.
Lindsay Smith then shared the experience she has built up on “The long term follow up of hip and knee replacements”.
The Pridie Memoral Lecture was given by Duncan Whitwell (from the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford) on “Trends in the surgical management of pathological fractures”, including his insight into the potential option of mega-prostheses allowing early functional rehabilitation. Duncan was a previous Senior SHO in Weston in the 1990s.
Dinner was held at the Oak and Glass restaurant.
