Due to slippage in dates for previous meetings, this was the only meeting for 2007, and was well worth waiting for! It was held in the beautiful surroundings of the Park, Wick, near Bristol.
Our hosts were Maurice and Rosemary Patterson and all their colleagues in Bath. Romayne Grubb, Maurice’s secretary, did a fantastic job organising the meeting for which we are all very grateful.
The programme included a new record number of 24 papers, all of very high quality (click here for the abstracts). Against all predictions, the programme ran exactly to time aided by professional presenters and expert chairmanship. The prize for the best paper was considered a dead heat and was therefore split between Miss Katherine Gash who presented an ‘Audit of theatre practice during joint replacement’, and Miss Louise Dickinson on ‘Conservative Burst Fracture Management’. The abstracts have been sent to the JBJS ‘Proceedings’ for publication.
Our guest speaker was Chris Weatherley, recently retired Consultant Spinal Surgeon who originally developed specialised spinal services in Exeter. He gave us a delightful and typical’ off the wall’ talk on ‘Communication’.
A good crowd stayed on for the evening meal (free, and wine!) which rounded off a really good day!
